r.a.w. is great, though i've learned to be a bit more critical of some of his technological optimism, at times it seems as though he justifies the current configurations of society based on the premise that they will eventually provide the means to, say, live forever. etc... that being said he's one of the most profound and accessible of the living philosophers out there....plus this guy really hates the bush administration...

I have to agree with the rapscallion on this one. R.A.W is both influencial and flaky. The bit about living longer and possibly "forever" seems to take away from the meaningfulness of life. For those of us who might not be so optimistic about an after-life, our own death can serve as a reminder to really enjoy everything we do right now (and the key word NOW) besides, as long as technology is used to oppress people and limit the human being to the consumption of mass produced commodities, it's not gonna do more than drive us into the ground...d**n it, this is supposed to be the information age, yet Zombies are rampant in every part of the globe? how does technology benifit zombies? And what the hell do zombies want with information anyway? Zombies just want reality tvs and Ipod Shuffles...but R.a.w DOES hate the bush administration, and don't you forget it

RAW has a few interesting ideas...watching Maybe Logic, I got the sense that he repeats himself a lot. Like rapscallion said, he is one of the more accessible philosophers around, but chances are, if you've taken a quality introductory philosophy class or even read Bertrand Russel's Problems of Philosophy, RAW isn't going to be much of a revelation for you. Another thing I find disquieting about him is his support of crackpots like Leary.

ahh yes, to quote a one philosophy prof that I know, who had a look at RAW's website, "he's a flake". But let us keep in mind the kind of audience he's trying to reach...to reach the masses you really have to dumb it down I guess heheheh

on that note though, i think accessibility goes a long way, especially in this culture, where even taking an introductory class in philosophy takes a great deal of resources (mental, physical and financial) which most people don't have, but he does get a bit repetitive at times, especially if you've read more that 2 or 3 of his non-fiction books....
